18 states have made it illegal to throw away e-waste and many more are planning on doing the same. So what is e-waste? E-waste is electronic waste, a laptop computer, tv, or battery. All of these have toxins in them, making it unsafe for the environment if improperly disposed of. Data Recovery
If you would like to remove data before recycling your laptop but it will not power on, this can easily be achieved by purchasing an external usb hard drive caddy. Laptop hard drives are 2.5" in size. Also be sure to remove the hard drive and check to see if it is an IDE drive or a SATA drive. Ide drives will have 2 rows of pins, while SATA found on all new systems will have a thin flat connector on it. Data Removal
Before recycling or selling your laptop you should be aware that someone may still be able to access your data even after it is formatted. You can permanently destroy the data by two things. Physically destroy the hard drive and lose some value and create more waste. Or use DBAN, a free utility that physically writes zeros over your data several times so that no one is able to access it. Need to find a place to recycle your laptop computer or other e-waste?
